Introduction to the Course

Security Analysis is the initial phase of the portfolio management process. This step consists of examining the risk and return characteristics of individual securities with an objective to identify underpriced and overpriced securities. The alternative approaches to security analysis, namely fundamental and technical analysis will be dealt with in this course. Portfolio Management deals with the approaches in identifying the range of possible portfolios that can be constituted from a given set of securities considering their risk, return and investors requirement.

Course Objectives

Problem Solving, Decision Making and Quantitative Analytical Skills of students will be tested. Student is expected to develop an understanding of portfolio management techniques and nurture an instinct to develop well diversified portfolios. The students should develop:

  • Understanding of Fundamental and Technical Analysis
  • Understanding of Portfolio Theory
  • Understanding of Portfolio, construction, evaluation and revision
